Pro tips
5 Ceremony Music Timing Tips
Time the bride entrance to her pace, not the song
Most songs have a 30-60 second intro. Your DJ should cue the bride right when the emotional swell hits — not at the song's start.
Build in a 5-second pause before the recessional
After the kiss, let the moment breathe for a beat. Then trigger the recessional song. This is when guests cheer loudest.
Have 1-2 extra prelude songs queued
Ceremonies rarely start exactly on time. Your DJ should have a deep prelude playlist ready for unexpected delays.
Confirm song choices 2 weeks before
Final song list should be in your DJ's hands 14 days out. Last-minute song swaps add stress.
Use the original recording, not a cover
Unless you specifically want a cover, the original version is what guests recognize and feel.
Common questions
Ceremony Music FAQ
How many songs do I need for my wedding ceremony?
Plan for 5-7 ceremony songs: 4-6 prelude songs (15-20 min), 1 processional, 1 bride entrance, 1 unity (optional), and 1 recessional.
What is the most popular wedding processional song?
"Canon in D" by Pachelbel remains the most-requested processional, though modern picks like "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri are increasingly popular.
Should I use the traditional "Here Comes the Bride"?
It's timeless but increasingly rare. About 30% of Cleveland brides choose it; the other 70% pick something modern like "A Thousand Years" or "Perfect."
Does my DJ handle ceremony music?
Yes — The Wedding Coach includes ceremony audio in most packages, with wireless lavalier mics for the officiant, prelude/processional/recessional song handling, and separate sound systems for outdoor or remote ceremonies.
Can I have ceremony music outdoors?
Absolutely. Outdoor ceremonies require a separate sound system from the reception — we bring weather-ready gear and battery-powered options for remote locations.
How early should the prelude music start?
15-20 minutes before the scheduled ceremony start. As soon as guests begin arriving, music should be playing.
Let us handle your ceremony audio.
